Here at Scarthin Books we’re big on supporting Local Authors and aim to give them the exposure they deserve.
However, we are regularly inundated with submissions and because the standard of books is so high, we have to be very selective on what we choose to stock. Due to this, we do not accept Createspace publications and we are quite strict on other self-published books. The production of the book must be up to par with that of contemporary works and we expect authors to have had an professional editor. We appreciate authors taking this into account before contacting us with a proposal.
If you are looking to have your work stocked at the bookshop, please send an email first with full details of the book: brief synopsis, who it is published by, links to any reviews and your contact details. We will not accept proof copies without an initial email first and we prefer email over being contacted via phone as we can get very busy on the front desk! If you wish to discuss your book in person, please contact Charlotte via email/phone to make an appointment first.
This also applies to current Local Authors looking to propose more work or for an update on sales. For the former please email first and for the latter we will now be contacting Local Authors bi-annually to make payments and will email as and when we need more stock of your work.
